Helping the Malays... but......Recently, after a friend lent me a book on speed reading, I have been able to enjoy reading much more. Not that my reading speed has improved drastically, but it has improved. Perhaps it's because I don't find reading 'slow', there is enough information to fill my mind while I 'read' that makes it interesting. I hope it can be faster tho....With that I want to introduce to you now, 2 blogs : http://jeffooi.com/ - about local politics http://limkitsiang.blogspot.com/- about himself, politics LKS's blog has just started a few days ago and I believe is generating much readership online. Partly because DAP's Ronnie's article partly because LKS has always been a political figure with 'something to say'. For me, I'm happy to see that the cyberspace has finally brought true freedom of speech to Malaysia, its a pity that only the internet has a minimal penetration rate in our country... (something's definitely wrong there!) *********** Recently, after the waving of keris, the talk about a new-new-economic-plan.... etc etc. I don't know what to feel about being Malaysian. I'm born here in KL, a Malaysian on my identification card, but do I feel treated as one? No. I'm most shocked to read in LKS's blog Is Hishammuddin going to apologise for brandishing the Malay keris at the recent UMNO Youth General Assembly? As Education Minister, he must not set the bad example of insensitivity or amnesia of the UMNO Youth rally in Kuala Lumpur on 17th October 1987, with banners blaring incendiary slogans like : “MAY 13 HAS BEGUN” and “SOAK IT (KRIS) WITH CHINESE BLOOD” http://limkitsiang.blogspot.com/ To be honest, I am quite sick of hearing the Malay agenda. How about the Malaysian Agenda? How about the towering Malaysians? ********* In Malaysia, the bumis enjoys special previlleges via the NEP, DEP or XXX-EP whatever you have it. Yet after all these years, the plan didn't seem to work. Wealth isn't distributed. These are facts known. It's only logical then when a plan don't work, you study why it didn't work and change it -- not work it harder, or in this case, give more previlleges, more help to the needy. Which I fear may just happen- again. We can give all the 'help' to the bumis but if they don't change intrinsicaly, then all else failed. Their mentality to blame, justify and give excuse are really their down fall. Help can be given and should be given but it seems the lessons are not caught, and from the statistic, not at all. In fact, the local press and everyone else has made the observation that all the 'helping' has made only a few millionaires, and a whole generation waiting and living on 'help'. Is this the kind of Malaysia that we want? No! Reading some blog comments in jeffooi and LKS's blog, it is obvious that some malay still think that if they can take back the 'land', then they'll be 'safe'. Safe from what? Safe from the non-bumis/malays taking the wealth away? The world is converging at an alarming rate!! The economy of the world is affecting us more each day. A raise in oil prices and our nation is shaking. Are we ready for the next depression as a nation, because it's bound to come? If we don't learn how to increase our competiveness as a nation, then we're all going to suffer together. Take MAS as an example. If MAS don't learn how to stay competitive as a global player, whoever heads it really don't matter. What's a 100% of zero? I believe that there are no shortcuts in building strength. If we want a towering nation, you have to put in the effort. Just look at other races history for a guide the jews, the russians , the chinese around the world, the japanese, the indians...etc. I don't think the bumis need any more help, I think it's time they learn how to fish. If they want to learn how to fish, then perhaps the non-bumis can coach them (as oppose to teach them). After all, the non-bumis have a lot more practice fishing without help. posted by The Cusser at 11:43 AM |
